With iOS 18, your iPhone offers more choices for how to open Halide. One of the best new additions is the introduction of customizable Lock Screen controls. In this article, we’ll show you how to set Halide as your Lock Screen camera option.
And don’t worry: the best part is that you don’t have to choose: swiping left on your Lock Screen will still open Apple’s Camera app.
1. Go to Settings > Wallpaper, then tap Customize.
You can also access this screen by long-pressing on the wallpaper on your Lock Screen.
2. Tap the (-) minus icon on the bottom Lock Screen control you’d like to replace with Halide:
3. The control will turn into a (+) plus. Tap the plus to choose a new control to use in its place.
4. You can find Halide in the “Capture” section, or scroll down to find Halide. Tap the Halide icon to add it.
5. Now tap “Done” in the top right of the screen to finish customizing your Lock Screen.
You’re all set! You are now able to open Halide and take photos even when your phone is locked.
Note: Beta software is unfinished and contains issues. There are reports of Lock Screen Capture having issues like missing icons, visual presentation problems, slow performance, or not working on beta versions of iOS. If you are on iOS 18.1 beta or subsequent beta releases, please be aware of this.
Notes on usage: due to security measures taken when iPhone is locked, Halide does not keep data between sessions when iPhone remains locked. For instance, changing capture settings while iPhone is locked and remains locked, and opening Halide again later while iPhone is locked will reset Halide to the settings it had when your Halide was last used while iPhone was unlocked. Photos taken can be reviewed when you unlock iPhone.
